Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Adults occur in rivers, streams, lakes and backwaters. Tolerant of salinity. They form schools in groups of four or five to several dozens (Ref. 6028). Feed on aquatic insects, fish, algae and shrimps. Spawn in running waters among submerged boulders and vegetation (Ref. 4832). Small fish have limited demand in the aquarium trade.

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01096 (0.00944 - 0.01273), b=3.03 (2.99 - 3.07), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  2.9   ±0.2 se; based on diet studies.
Generation time: 2.7 ( na - na) years. Estimated as median ln(3)/K based on 2 growth studies.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
