Etymology: Glossanodon: Greek, glossa = tongue + Greek, anodos = without teeth (Ref. 45335); mildredae: Named for Mildred H. Carrington whose tasteful and accurate drawings have contributed greatly to the progress of ichthyology (Ref. 40914).

Vent immediately anterior to the anal fin base rather than far forward; dentary teeth along more than half the distance from the symphysis to the angle of the gape; 5 branchiostegal rays; dusky blotches mainly above the midline of the body (Ref. 40914).
