Etymology: Gila: A river flowing from SW Mejico to south Arizona; eremica: Name is Latinized from the Greek, meaning "of the desert", and alludes to the severe desert conditions in the region where this new species occurs. Rainfall in much of the nortwestern Sonora averages less than 150 mm a year.

背的軟條 (總數) : 7 - 8; 臀鰭軟條: 7 - 8. Differs morphometrically from G. purpurea in having on average a shallower caudal peduncle, shorter mean distance from origin of pectoral fin to origin of pelvic fin and longer upper jaw. Differs from G. ditaenia in its shorter caudal peduncle and longer post-orbital mean lengths and an average of 57 vs. 68 scales in the lateral line.
型態特徵地不同於 G. purpurea 一般說來有一個比較水淺的尾柄, 從胸鰭起點到腹鰭與較長的上頜的起源比較短的平均距離。 在它的較短的尾柄與較長的後眼窩的中有別於 G. ditaenia 平均的長度與平均 57 vs.68個鱗片在側線中。
