Most specimens were collected from freshwater habitats, but there are some caught from estuaries and mangrove areas; while planktonic juveniles have been collected well offshore at sea. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Brooding males present in collections from all months except November, December, February, and May (Ref. 30499).
