خارهاي باله پشتي (کل) : 1; شعاع نرم باله پشتي (کل) : 49 - 53; خارهاي باله مخرجي: 0; شعاع نرم باله مخرجي: 38 - 43; مهره ها: 56 - 59. Gill membranes fused ventrally to isthmus. Shoulder with an ocellated, black, eye-sized spot. Lateral line short with 9.7 (6-14) pored scales.
Found in intertidal pools to 3 m. Feeds mainly on crustaceans. Eggs with cruciform hooks on the surface.
