Dorsale stekels (totaal) : 1; Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal) : 49 - 53; Anale stekels: 0; Anale zachte stralen: 38 - 43; Wervels: 56 - 59. Gill membranes fused ventrally to isthmus. Shoulder with an ocellated, black, eye-sized spot. Lateral line short with 9.7 (6-14) pored scales.
Found in intertidal pools to 3 m. Feeds mainly on crustaceans. Eggs with cruciform hooks on the surface.
