Short description

Espinas dorsales (total) : 4; Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 8; Espinas anales: 0; Radios blandos anales: 7. A pair of supraorbital cirri present. The first dorsal fin of male high, broad and with many narrow white lines. Preopercular spine with an antrorse process at base which is absent in N. ocellatus and N. morrisoni. Attains 7 cm SL.
Inhabits coral and rocky reefs. Found on algal covered rocks and boulders (Ref. 9710).
