Etymology: Zenarchopterus: Particle zen, derived from zao = to give life + Greek, archos = anus + Greek, pteron = fin.
Eponymy: August Rasor was treasurer of the Frankfurt Geographical and Statistical Association that mounted an expedition (1911) to the Lesser Sunda Islands (Indonesia). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Upper jaw slightly longer than wide; width divided by length 0.81-0.87. A small black basicaudal spot present at end of silvery lateral band. Pectoral fin much shorter than head length; head length divided by lower jaw length 0.61-0.64. Males unknown (Ref. 10988).
Found in harbors and mangrove areas (Ref. 48635).
