Etymology: Trachipterus: Greek, trachys, -eia, -ys = rough + Greek, pteron = wing, fin (Ref. 45335).
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Marine; bathypelagic; depth range 300 - 600 m (Ref. 35388). Deep-water; 72°N - 25°N, 62°W - 25°E
Northeast Atlantic: Norway and Iceland to Madeira Islands; one report from Spain in the Mediterranean. Western Atlantic: New York to southern Florida in USA. Populations in western Atlantic are probably a separate species (Ref. 7251).
Length at first maturity / Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?, range 200 - ? cm
Max length : 300 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 35388)
