Etymology: Nothobranchius: Greek, nothos = false + Greek, brangchia = gill (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Theo Steinfort (d: 2008) was a Dutch aquarist and breeder of killifish. His breeding of this species helped make it available to other killifish enthusiasts. He was one of the collectors of the type with Wildekamp and others. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
