Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal soft rays: 5. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: absence of an adipose fin or azygous plates at the typical adipose-fin location (vs. reduced adipose fin or azygous plates in N. botucatu, N. paranensis nd a fully-developed adipose fin in all other species); differs from N. botucatu, N. paranensis by having a dark caudal fin with a unique v-shaped hyaline vertical area (vs. dark caudal fin with several irregular hyaline vertical bands) and having lower lip reaching or almost reaching branquial apertures transversal line (vs. far from reaching branquial apertures transversal line) (Ref. 119403).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Occurs in clear water, at the bottom of the rivers among and beneath the rocks (Ref. 119403).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = No PD50 data   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.02138 (0.00778 - 0.05875), b=2.93 (2.70 - 3.16), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
