Etymology: Ancistrus: Greek, agkistron = hook (Ref. 45335); tolima: The specific name is a noun in apposition and refers to the princess Yulima who was executed and martyred by the Spanish conquistadores, and to the Department of Tolima, where the type locality is located.
Eponymy: Tolima refers firstly to Princess Yulima of the Pijao tribe, burned at the stake and martyred by the Spanish conquistadors, and secondly to Department of Tolima, Colombia, where the locality of the holotype is. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
