Etymology: Apistogramma: Greek, apisto = uncertain + Greek, gramma = graphic signal (Ref. 45335); paulmuelleri: Named for the late Professor Emeritus Dr. Paul Müller , one of the leading biogeographers of recent decades, who made a number of significant contributions to our understanding of the origins of Neotropical cichlids, including the genus Apistogramma.

Max length : 4.1 cm SL mâle / non sexé; (Ref. 93321)
Occurs exclusively in a small forest brook. Collected together with Laetacara flavilabris, Crenuchusspilurus, Aequidens sp., three Cichlasoma sp., several medium to adult size specimens of two still undetermined species of Rivulus, and adult specimens of a species of Hyphessobrycon. A few females were observed carrying small fry (Ref. 93321).
