Etymology: karsticus: The species name karsticus is derived from the karst region inhabited by many endemic species (Ref. 87378).
Eponymy: The etymology is not explained by Bonaparte, and it may not be an eponym. However, Telestes was the name of the last king of ancient Corinth (748 BC) and of a poet of 5th-century Greece, so the name might refer to one of these. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

পৃষ্ঠীয় কাঁটা (মোট ) : 2; পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ) : 8; পায়ূ কাঁটা : 5; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 8 - 10. This species is distinguished by the following characters: a black midlateral stripe from eye to end of peduncle (less obvious in live specimens but conspicuous in preserved specimens) within dark area of back and flank; (45)49-62(65) lateral line scales; 8.5-9.5 branched anal-fin rays; rounded snout projecting slightly beyond upper lip; pharyngeal teeth in 2 rows; posterior margin of anal fin straight; number of gill rakers 9-11; number of scale rows between lateral line and pelvic origin 6.5-7.5; depth of caudal peduncle 2-2.6 times in its length (Ref. 87378).
