Etymology: Bodianus: Bodianus after Bodiano or Pudiano, from the Portuguese pudor, meaning modesty (Jordan & Evermann, 1896); bathycapros: Name from the Greek 'bathys' for deep, and 'kapros' for wild boar, refers to the deep dwelling habits of this Hawaiian pigfish. Subgenus Verreo from the Latin verres for boar, referring to the common name 'boarfish' or 'pigfish'.
