Etymology: Microrasbora: Greek,mikros = small + Rasbora, a word used in India and Malay Peninsulamicrophthalma: Derived from the Greek micro (small), ophthalm from opthalmos (eyes), in reference to its relative smaller eyes when compared to its congeners.

Épines dorsales (Total) : 3; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 7 - 8; Épines anales: 3; Rayons mous anaux: 9 - 10; Vertèbres: 30. Can be diagnosed from all its congeners by the following characters: pre-dorsal scales 15-16; predorsal length 60.68% of SL; preanal length 65-71% of SL; eye diameter 27-38% of HL and 70-93% of inter-orbital width; and dorsal fin origin posterior to pelvic fin insertion (Ref. 75599).

Occurs in small hill stream with sandy bottom and numerous cobblestones. Food items found in the intestines include zooplankton and phytoplankton (Ref. 75599).
