Vertebre: 27 - 28. Distinguished from its congeners by possessing a more depressed head profile, a more developed and conspicuous tuft of enlarged odontodes on the tip of the supraoccipital and a partially enclosed arrector fossae.
Found in deforested areas in moderate to fast current streams and in association with aquatic macrophytes or in the submerged portion of marginal vegetation. Feeds on filamentous blue-green algae, chlorophytes, diatoms and periderm (Ref. 57842).
