Etymology: Pariosternarchus: Name from the Greek word 'pario' for cheek, referring to the expanded ventrolateral surface of the head, and 'sternarchus', a commonly used name in apteronotid taxonomyamazonensis: Named for the Amazon River.

Discharge of its electric organ is unknown. Collected from flooded beaches and deep river channels using seines and trawl nets in the Amazon River, and the mouths of some of its whitewater tributaries(Ref. 57730).
