Color: brown, with darker mottling and a faint mid-lateral row of darker spots; dorsal fins with dark brown bands or spots; males with prominent yellow band near margin of dorsal fins and a yellowish anal fin (Ref. 44894).
Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Often found in estuaries with mangroves and soft silt bottoms. Can tolerate fresh water, but is basically a marine species (Ref. 44894).
