Épines dorsales (Total) : 12; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 14 - 16; Épines anales: 2; Rayons mous anaux: 14 - 15; Vertèbres: 26. Body bluish gray dorsally, the scale edges black to dark brown, shading to orange-yellow ventrally; a small white blotch often present in middle of body just above lateral line; pelvic, anal, and caudal fins bright orange-yellow, the margins black. Remarks: caudal fin slightly emarginate, with broadly rounded lobes.

Adults are found around atolls (Ref. 39312). Life history characteristics for the family specify that this group is oviparous, with distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205).
