Etymology: Eviota: No etymology given, suggested by Christopher Scharpt: from Latin 'eu' for 'true' and 'iota' for anything very small, in combination 'truly very small' referring to it as being the smallest vertebrate at the time it has benn described by Jenkins (thus, making the suggestion by Scharpt plausible; susanae: Named for Susan J. Jewett.

Short description
Chiavi di identificazione | Morfologia | Morfometria
Spine dorsali (totale) : 7; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 8 - 9; Spine anali: 1; Raggi anali molli: 6 - 8. This species is distinguished by the following characters: rugose genital papillae in both sexes. No IT pores; POP pores absent or greatly reduced. 4 - 6 large spots on ventral midline posteriorly from anal fin origin; subcutaneous bars associated with some ventral-midline spots. Fifth pelvic fin ray small, unbranched, about 1/10 length of 4th ray (usually poorly ossified). Anterior-most branch of 4th pelvic ray elongate, at least 10 segments. Dorsal spines in D1 not prolonged as filaments. 9 - 17 pectoral fin rays may be branched (Ref. 38034).
Found resting on the substrate in shallow (<4.6 m) sheltered habitats, either at patch reefs well back in the bay (no surge, silt, and mud surrounding the coral) or from fouling communities on dock floats (Ref. 38034, 116739).
