Etymology: Trichomycterus: Greek, thrix = hair + Greek, mykter, -eros = nose (Ref. 45335).

Cave-restricted species. Distinct populations are found only in the Umajalanta Cave in Torotoro National Park, located high in the Bolivian Andes around an altitude of 1,980 - 2,280 m (Ref. 57918).
