পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ) : 12; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 8. Has a series of 9-13 saddles along the back; a series of 9-11 more or less roundish blotches along the sides; lateral blotches usually connected by a dark longitudinal stripe which ends in a roundish black spot in the middle of the caudal-fin base; the stripe apparently faint or inconspicuous in small specimens; dorsal fin plain, hyaline (Ref. 27732).

Inhabits streams and river backwaters with sandy bottoms. Usually found only at the driest time of the year. Feeds primarily on insect larvae, worms and some algae (Ref. 12693).
