Etymology: leda: Named for the Greek mythology, Leda, mother of Clytemnestra, Castor, Helen, and Pollux (Ref. 7365).
Eponymy: In Greek mythology, Leda was the mother of Helen (of Troy) and of the twins Castor and Pollux. Eschmeyer’s name was doubtless inspired by the fact that two other members of this genus had, a century earlier, been named as P. castor and P. pollux. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
