Dorsale stekels (totaal) : 7 - 8; Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal) : 14 - 18; Anale stekels: 1; Anale zachte stralen: 12 - 15. Seven transverse suborbital rows, complete oculoscapular and preopercular lateral-line canals, scaled nape and as a distinctive autapomorphy, an elongate anterior nostril, which extends over the upper lip. Broad dark oblique banding across the body.
