Issue
Paugy & Schaefer (2007: Ref. 80290) put the validity of the species in doubt as being a morphotype of Brycinus macrolepidotus Valenciennes 1850. This requires confirmation most likely through genetics studies (Paugy, pers,comm., 21 Mar. 2013).
