Etymology: Callionymus: Greek, kallion, comparative of kallos = beautiful + Greek, onyma = name; with a better name.
Eponymy: James Goodlad (1902–1984) and his brother Matthew both emigrated to Australia from Shetland (1920) and both became Fisheries Inspectors at Albany, Western Australia. James obtained the holotype of the stinkfish (1943). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
