Short description Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 6; Vertebrae: 29 - 31. Diagnosis: labial disk moderately developed, almost circular and not papillose, only with some weak swellings, much more subtle than those observed in other West African species; outer pair of mandibular barbels much longer than inner pair; inner auxiliary barbels absent; all teeth simple, long and straight (sometimes slightly S-shaped), those on premaxillary plates set in 2 rows; mandibular teeth, initially believed to be absent or rudimentary, in fact small and numerous, and arranged in 1-2 regular rows along entire rim of mouth; eye moderately developed; caudal fin slightly forked, with rounded lobes, lower lobe better developed than upper (Ref. 57223). Coloration: 3 dark vertical bars on sides, separated by wide lighter areas; some individuals with narrow dark vertical bar at base of caudal fin, but rest of fin-surface uniformly coloured (Ref. 57223).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00389 (0.00180 - 0.00842), b=3.12 (2.94 - 3.30), in cm total length, based on all LWR estimates for this body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.1   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
