Etymology: Betta: Malay/Javanese origin. Bleeker (1850, 1858) indicates Ikan Wadder Bettah as the local name of Betta trifasciata Bleeker, 1849 (now Betta picta, Valenciennes, 1846) in the Ambarawa Javanese dialect. Ikan Wader is a common Javanese name for smaller freshwater fishes, especially cyprinids (already used in Old Javanese). See Blust, R. & Trussel, S. Austronesian Comparative Dictionary. Web Edition (https://www.trussel2.com/acd/)pallida: From the Latin word 'pallidus', meaning pale or colorless, compared to some of its congeners which are more colorful.

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Facultative air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Specimens were collected in February 2005 in a slowly flowing creek which was only 20 to 50 cm deep; the water was clear and slightly tanned, bed covered densely with leaf litter; water data pH 6.3, 82 µS/cm and 25.5°C. From another creek, where the species was collected, pH 6.5, 69 µS/cm and 26.6 °C (Ref. 78499).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01000 (0.00377 - 0.02651), b=2.97 (2.74 - 3.20), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.1   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
