Etymology: Trichomycterus: Greek, thrix = hair + Greek, mykter, -eros = nose (Ref. 45335); diatropoporos: Derived from the Greek diatropos meaning variable, and poros meaning pore, in reference to the variation in the presence of pores i1 and i3 of infraorbital sensory canal of the new species. A noun in apposition.

The type locality is a rapid flowing, wide and shallow river with an average depth of 0.5 m, clear water, rocky bottom and large amounts of submerged vegetation. Feeds on larvae of Diptera (Chironomidae, Simuliidae) and nymphs of Ephemeroptera (Ref. 93814).
