Vertebrae: 155 - 158. This species is distinguished from its two congeners by the following characters: fewer total vertebrae 155-158 (vs. 168-172 in A. phrix, 186-199 in A. robinsorum); head relatively long, its head length 10.1-12.3% TL; snout relatively short; 30.0-35.8% HL; head longer than trunk length (vs. about equal in length in both species); compound teeth on vomer 5-6 (vs. 7-8 in A. robinsorum) (Ref. 121995).
