Dorsal soft rays (total): 9 - 10; Anal soft rays: 18 - 24; Vertebrae: 32 - 34. This species can be distinguished from P. maxillaris by the following characters: no maxillary teeth (vs. 14-22); by having all teeth of the premaxilla and dentary conical (vs. larger teeth of the premaxilla and dentary tricuspid); dark blotch on the pelvic fin absent (vs. small dark blotch on the pelvic fin present); humeral blotch absent (vs. present) (Ref. 128489).
Collected from a flooded savannah associated with the Rio Aiporo (Ref. 128489).
