The species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: D2 I,13; A I,13; pectoral fin rays16; longitudinal scale series 68-70; perdorsal scales 23; vertebral count 10 + 16 = 26; preopercular canal with rather more, 5 pores ?1, ?, ?, ?, and ?1, Colouration: lateral side of trunk with a broad, deep brown stripe from the rear of lateral gill opening to caudal fin base; dorsal profile of the lateral, broad deep brown stripe with waving margin; caudal with median blackish brown mark, and with outer region translucent; caudal fin base with a vertical black bar (Ref. 127452).
