Etymology: Microdevario: From the Greek 'mikros' meaning small and the generic name Devario, alluding to the small size and its relationship with Devario; nanus: Specific name from the Latin word 'nanus' = dwarf (Ref. 38434).

In the field, slightly yellow with iridescent blue side and silvery eye and belly; fins translucent with blotch in dorsal fin variably developed; aquarium-kept yellow with iridescent bluish side and silvery-golden eye, belly and opercle. Dorsal fin tip with a black blotch and a fainter one at the tip of the anal fin. Longitudinal scale series 25-26 + 1-2. Predorsal scales 11-13. Branched anal-fin rays 10-11. Dorsal fin rays 3 simple, 7 branched. Pectoral fin slightly falcate, with no axillary lobe. Pelvic fin slightly pointed, 6 rays, 2 axillary scale distinct in largest specimens. Anal fin rays 3 simple, 10-11 branched rays, last one split to the base. Caudal fin with 10 + 9 principal rays, 9 + 8 branched. No lateral line pores. Predorsal scales 11-13 (Ref. 38434).
