Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 6.0 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 41718)
Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10 - 11; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 9 - 10; Vertebrae: 26. Gill membranes fused in the anteroventral midline, at which point they are also fused to the isthmus (without overlapping it anteriorly for some distance before isthmal fusion), third and fourth spines of first dorsal fin elongate, in males only, 13-15 gill rakers on the first ceratobranchial, small (one-third pupil diameter) orange spots on the head, with at least two such spots on premaxillary portion of the upper lip (Ref. 41718); further characterized by the following: united pelvic fins, frenum present; longitudinal scale series 65-78; head without scales; greatest depth of body 4.3-5.2 in SL; caudal fin rounded or oblong, longer than head length (Ref. 90102).
Collected from fine mud bottoms and reported to live in association with alpheid shrimps (Ref. 41718). Hovers up to 5 cm above its burrow (Ref. 41718). Feeds primarily on plankton in the water column (Ref. 41718).
