Teleostei (teleosts) > Gadiformes (Cods) > Macrouridae (Grenadiers or rattails)
Etymology: Spicomacrurus: Name presumably from the Latin 'spica' or 'spiculum' meaning dart, spike; probably referring to the dartlike shape of the fish, and 'macrurus', a genus of grenadier; treated as a masculine nounadelscotti: Named for a notably fine French ale, which was used to celebrate the discovery of the species.
Eponymy: This may look like an eponym but is in fact the name of a beer! The authors wrote: “The name comes from a notably fine French ale with which we celebrated the discovery of [this] new species.” (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
