Etymology: Paranisotremus: Name from ancient Greek παρά (p(= pará) meaning beside, next to, near, resembling; referring to the close appearance of the species to Anisotremus, which is the genus in which this species has been included for the last 35 years (Acero and Garzón, 1982).
