This species is not very colorful (Ref. 12251). Lives in the intermediate habitat, which is characterized by a sandy bottom with numerous rocks; maintains close contact with rocky substrate; ventral part of body remains just few millimeters above substrate while fish follows contours of rock; rare cichlid; occurs at dephts deeper than 15 m; highly developed lateral line system for prey detection (Ref. 46829). Crustaceans, insect larvae, copepods, snail fragments, plant material and sand grains found in stomach (Ref. 46829, 93980).
