Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Distinguished from congeners in British Isles by having interorbital space flat, with eyes almost flush with dorsal profile in lateral view, and snout conical, pointed, lower jaw projecting. Differs also by the combination of the following characters: flank greenish brown with orange spots, belly orange (also in some females); pectoral, pelvic and anal fins orange, with white anterior margin; eye diameter smaller than snout length at 12-14 cm SL, 4.3-5.0 times in HL; and maxilla reaching posterior margin of eye in adult males (Ref. 59043).
Inhabits deep lakes. Shoals at the surface during summer, probably for feeding on insects or plankton. Attains a maximum size of up to about 25 cm SL (Ref. 59043).
