Diagnosed from congeners by having the following characters: slightly pointed snout, rostral cap distinct in ventral view; lateral line with 45-56 + 3-4 scales; body depth 3.7-4.4 times in SL; caudal peduncle depth 1.5-1.9 times in its length; 24-33 gill rakers; pharyngeal teeth 7-6 or 6-6 (Ref. 59043).
Occurs in fast-flowing stretches but can survive in still water. Moves to upper stretches to spawn. Preys on benthic diatoms. Spawns on stone and gravel bottom (Ref. 59043).
