Dorsal spines (total): 0; Anal spines: 0. Prepectoral scutes usually 7. Expanded third infraorbital bone, with the anterior edge vertical or nearly so. Supraorbital grooves lacking.
Pelagic. Feeds by filtering plankton (Ref. 68964).
