Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Found in rivers and ponds, commonly in muddy pools and tanks (Ref. 41236). Adults usually occur among marginal vegetation or roots in both still and slow-flowing waters. Feed on plants, shrimps. Insects and detritus (Ref. 6028). Oviparous, distinct pairing possibly like other members of the same family (Ref. 205).
