Dorsal spines (total): 16 - 17; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10 - 11; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 18 - 20. This species is distinguished by the following characters: A 18-20; scales in the transverse series 12-14 + 1 + 9-10; no scales from head, nape, belly, pectoral base and area immediately adjacent to bases of first dorsal and anal fins; maxilla reaching posteriorly to below pupil; eye diameter 7.4 -8.9% of SL; head length 29.2-32.4% of S.L.; first dorsal spine 7.8-8.7% of S.L.; and its colouration (Ref. 86997).
Inhabits large rockpools (4 m diameter) and among rocks covered in coralline algae at 2 m depth (Ref. 86997).
