Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Dorsal soft rays (total): 25; Anal soft rays: 36; Vertebrae: 69. A single terminal bulb, more than twice its width, with a single, digitate terminal projection 40-110% of bulb length. Bulb and projection combined 2-3.4% SL. Barbel 28-41% SL in small specimens, 60-76% SL in those over 85 cm SL. Axis of stem well pigmented. External chevron-shaped or roundish striated areas unpigmented, closely spaced or contiguous distally, but often obscured distally by inclusions. Spherical or granular inclusions present in distal half of stem, small and widely-spaced proximally, becoming large and crowded distally; inclusions not well developed in specimens smaller than about 10 cm SL. Middorsal paired spots between occiput and dorsal-fin origin 8 (Ref. 11333).
