Etymology: Amphilophus: Greek, amphi = on both sides + Greek, lophos = crest (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: E Lyons was the Belgian ambassador to Panama. The type was collected in Costa Rica during the collecting trip of King Leopold of Belgium (1965). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
