Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Inhabits stagnant waters as well as shallow waters of smaller rivers with organic material and low velocity. Abundant in creeks with much organic matter but also resides in the shallow waters of rivers (Ref. 36880). Feeds on aquatic insects. Forms small groups on the river bottoms.

Life cycle and mating behavior Maturity | Reproduction | Spawning | Eggs | Fecundity | Larvae

An open bottom spawner which produces hundreds of eggs. Both parents care for their eggs until the fry are a week into free-swimming (Ref. 12251).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5039   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.02291 (0.01064 - 0.04934), b=3.07 (2.89 - 3.25), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.40 se; based on food items.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Assuming Fec<1000).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
Price category (Ref. 80766):   Unknown.
