Teleostei (teleosts) > Perciformes/Notothenioidei (Icefishes) > Channichthyidae (Crocodile icefishes)
Etymology: Neopagetopsis: Greek, neos = new + Greek, pagetos, -ou = ice, frozen (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: The etymology is not explained. However, as the type was found in the stomach of a whale, otherwise filled with krill, we think it is safe to assume this is an allusion to the biblical Jonah who apparently ended up in the stomach of a ‘whale’ [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
