Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 11; Anal soft rays: 23 - 25. Distinguished from all other species of the genus by its upturned mouth. Differs further by having 45-54 scales in lateral row, 8-11 dorsal rays and 23-25 anal rays (Ref. 26747).
Non-annual breeder. Is very difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
