This species is synonym of Gasterosteus aculeatus Linnaeus, 1758 in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870) following Monod (1973). Please send references, or more studies are needed.

Adults are confined to small streams (Ref. 559). Feed on aquatic insects and other invertebrates (Ref. 559). Males build nests on muddy bottoms and guards eggs and young for several weeks (Ref. 559).
