Etymology: Diogenichthys: Taken from Diogenes, cinic philosopher who showed his comptent for the amenities of life by living in a tube, 1802 + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Diogenes (412 or 404 BC–323 BC) was a Greek philosopher who made a virtue of poverty. He reportedly went about in daytime with a lighted lantern, looking for an honest man: thus his name being attached to ichthys (fish), and used for a lantern-fish. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
